Antebellum Homes of Kansas City

The Plaza Branch continues its annual Kansas City Architecture series, focusing this year on antebellum homes in recognition of the sesquicentennial of the Civil War.

Tom Taylor reviews the history of the Alexander Majors House and the John B. Wornall House.

Built in the Greek Revival style in 1858, the Wornall House, located at 6115 Wornall Road, served as a field hospital during the Battle of Westport. The Majors House, built in 1856 and located at 8201 State Line Road, was built by Alexander Majors, co-founder of the Pony Express. Majors also helped establish the Kansas City stockyards and a substantial freighting business.
