The Human Face of Climate Change

The Kansas City Public Library hosts The Human Face of Climate Change: A Sisters on the Planet Event on Friday, October 3, at 7 p.m. in the Truman Forum at the Plaza Branch, 4801 Main St.

This conversation about climate change and global justice features Wore Gana Seck, executive director of Green Senegal, and Sharon Hanshaw, director of Coastal Women for Change.

Seck is also president of CONGAD, a consortium of 160 national and international non-governmental organizations. She will speak on the increasing impact of climate change on the lives of families in rural West Africa. Her organizations focus on creating resilient and sustainable rural communities in Senegal.

Hanshaw is also a national ambassador for the Sisters on the Planet initiative and has been integral in the rebuilding process following Hurricane Katrina. Her current work centers on creating a broad infrastructure that will help communities in the Gulf Coast better prepare and respond to climate disasters.

This event is co-sponsored by Oxfam America, the League of Women Voters of Kansas and Greater Kansas City, the Greater Kansas City United Nations Association, the University of Kansas African Studies Center, the Clean Energy Project, the Kansas Rural Center, and CARE.

Admission is free. Call 816.701.3407 to indicate your interest in attending. Free parking will also be available.
