Hoppy History: Oktoberfest and KC's German American Beer Brewing Background

Friday, October 7, 2022
Planning to raise a glass during this year's KC Oktoberfest? If you're attending the event, be sure to visit the Library's booth, where our Missouri Valley Special Collections team will be highlighting the city’s German American and beer brewing history. Pick up a limited-edition set of cards that showcase these three sudsy stories:

  • Discover the story of Heim Brewing Company, once located in the East Bottoms where the J. Rieger & Co. Distillery now resides.
  • You may know the name Muehlebach from the longtime downtown hotel, but do you know the background on Muehlebach Brewery and its family legacy?
  • A 19th-century German biergarten and amusement park once occupied the site of today’s Crown Center; appropriately, it's the site of this year's KC Oktoberfest.

Pour yourself a cold one and enjoy exploring Kansas City's past at kchistory.org/beer.
