Barbara Mulvihill, an information services librarian at Salina Public Library, designed and created Miniature Library, a diorama of a contemporary library building. Essential elements represented in the diorama include: Signage in both English and Spanish Diverse demographics represented: people of all ages, ethnic backgrounds, and genders "Read" posters Cd’s, videos, and books on tape Children’s section circulation desk A sculpture Rotating magazine rack Children’s information playground Computer stations with computer equipment including keyboards, screens, towers, and computer mice Bookshelves with books labeled fiction and nonfiction, Movie posters A circulation desk A copy machine The main circulation desk Periodicals This two-part sculpture assists the viewer in recognizing all the important elements needed to create community in the confines of a library building.
