First Day Presidential Stamps, August 2005
To commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Presidential Libraries Act of 1955, the Postal Service honored presidential libraries and their place in American history with this stamp issuance. Presidential libraries are established in the home state of each president after he or she leaves office. The Postal Service has chosen the Seal of the President of the United States to feature on the Presidential Libraries stamp.
The 37-cent Presidential Libraries stamp was issued on August 4, 2005, in the following locations: Herbert Hoover Presidential Library and Museum, West Branch, Iowa; Franklin D. Roosevelt Presidential Library and Museum, Hyde Park, New York; Harry S. Truman Presidential Library and Museum, Independence, Missouri; Dwight D. Eisenhower Presidential Library and Museum, Abilene, Kansas; John F. Kennedy Presidential Library and Museum, Boston, Massachusetts; Lyndon Baines Johnson Library and Museum, Austin, Texas; Richard M. Nixon Presidential Library, Yorba Linda, California; Gerald R. This commemorative framed collection includes an enlarged print of the 37-cent Presidential Libraries stamp, four commemorative stamps and a brass placard. The print, centered at the top of the collection, is an exact copy of the stamp. The stamps, located in the lower left, are noted for the blue illustration of the Great Seal of the United States. The blue stylized text, on the stamps, reads "Presidential Libraries", "37", "USA". The red ocher text, on the stamps, reads "Fifty Years" and "2005". The text and illustration are set against a cream background. The brass placard, located in the lower right, is engraved with the following text "Presidential Libraries", "First Day of Issue", "United States Postal Service", "Independence, Missouri", and "August 4, 2005".
