Westport Historical Society Speaker Series

Bruce Mathews, professional photographer and local historian, will present his collection of color photographs of stained glass windows found in both the most famous and the least known historic structures still standing in Kansas City.

Bruce has scoured the region to capture an array of magnificent survivors of stained glass art and will tell the stories behind them.

A speaker’s reception will follow at the Harris Kearney House, 40th & Baltimore. The public is invited.

Bruce’s new book, Windows of Kansas City, on which the talk is based, will be available for sale.

Windows of Kansas City is art, history and inspiration right in our midst, found in churches, schools, hospitals, restaurants, public buildings and private homes. Bruce began the project thinking of the Kansas City metro area and soon found himself adding windows in Atchison, Lawrence, Leavenworth and Topeka, Kansas as well as Lexington and St. Joseph, Missouri.

Bruce is a free-lance commercial photographer based in Kansas City. With 25 years of experience, he specializes in golf, medical, legal, architectural, corporate and event photography. He is principal author of two other books, Elmwood Cemetery: Stories of Kansas City and The Kansas City Spirit: Stories of Service Above Self.
