Notes & Letters

Presented By
Bach Aria Soloists

Mozart, it turns out, could turn a phrase as well as a musical score. In one of many letters to his wife Constanze – this one bemoaning his mounting debt – he added a postscript: “Tears rained upon the paper as I wrote the foregoing page, but now let us cheer up! Catch! – an astonishing number of kisses are flying about.”

For composers often working in seclusion, such letter writing was a connection to the wider world. Kansas City’s Bach Aria Soloists draw from a number of these missives in Notes & Letters, a glimpse into the composers as persons through music and prose. The performance also features the readings of guest actor Matthew Schwader and guest musician, cellist Sascha Groschang.
