The Kansas City Public Library presents a look at the Legacy of the Buffalo Soldiers on Sunday, February 22, at 3 p.m. in the Truman Forum at the Plaza Branch, 4801 Main St.
The program will be presented by members of the Greater Kansas City-Leavenworth Area Chapter of the Ninth and Tenth (Horse) Cavalry Association, along with the 24th and 25th Infantry. An 18-minute film on the history of the Buffalo Soldiers will also be shown.
The Buffalo Soldiers are part of an often-forgotten chapter of American History. Buffalo Soldiers was a nickname given to the U.S. 10th Cavalry Regiment of the United States Army by the Native American tribes they fought. They were a segregated African-American unit.
One of 24 nationwide chapters, the Greater Kansas City-Leavenworth Area Chapter is a non-profit patriotic military service organization.
