Poet Threa Almontaser won the 2021 Maya Angelou Book Award for her collection The Wild Fox of Yemen, a provocative portrait of immigrant life in the U.S., specifically that of a Yemeni American family. She reads from the collection and discusses the themes of her book and her literary inspiration.
Almontaser, a visiting writer at Duke University, is also a recipient of the Walt Whitman Award and the Brooklyn Public Library Literary Prize and was a National Book Award nominee.
Her KCPL presentation is presented in partnership with the University of Missouri-Kansas City, University of Missouri-Columbia, Missouri State University, and Northwest Missouri State, Truman State, and Southeast Missouri State universities.
