Bach and Love

Presented By
Bach Aria Soloists, Markus Rathey

When Johann Sebastian Bach’s choral compositions turn to love, it’s in a theological sense. Love of God. Love for one’s neighbor. But the sentiment is transferable to the soulful love we all experience.

Complementing a performance of Bach’s vocal and instrumental masterpieces by Kansas City’s Bach Aria Soloists, Yale University professor and renowned Bach scholar Markus Rathey explains the works of the great composer and the passions – including love – that they evoke.

Rathey, a professor of music history at Yale, is the author of two recent books on Bach and president of the American Bach Society. Joining the Bach Aria Soloists in their presentation is Hannah Collins, visiting professor of cello at the University of Kansas.
