Geography blesses us. Kansas City gets a prime view of the celestial event of a lifetime – a total solar eclipse – and the Library offers one of the best viewing areas and experiences on its fifth-floor Rooftop Terrace and parking garage.
Start with meditation at 10 a.m., a little less than two hours before the moon begins its pass in front of the sun. Lisa Pinsker, the owner of Mindfulness Matters, leads the group session. The musical trio Tiny Escalators provides a free lunchtime concert from noon to 1 p.m.
The big event, the total eclipse, is projected to begin at 1:09 p.m. and last a spectacular 29 seconds at this southern edge of the path of totality.
Meditation: 10 a.m.
Live concert: Noon
Total eclipse: 1:09 p.m.
Please note the following:
- Parking in the Library garage will be limited since the top floor will be reserved for the eclipse viewing. Please consider using public transportation or plan extra time to locate parking. Taking the KC Streetcar to the Library Stop at 9th and Main is recommended.
