All Library locations will be closed Tuesday, December 24 & Wednesday, December 25, for the Christmas holiday.
The Women’s Center at the University of Missouri-Kansas City, in conjunction with the Kansas City Public Library and UMKC’s Office of Multicultural Student Affairs, presents the panel discussion Women, Girls, Ladies: Continuing the Conversation on Wednesday, August 26, at 6:30 p.m. at the Plaza Branch, 4801 Main Street.
A follow-up to a November 2008 panel on intergenerational feminism, this year’s event addresses the status of feminism in today’s society, with a particular emphasis on issues of class and race. Many women are aware of the tenets advanced by the founders of the modern feminist movement, yet the issues as they relate to women of color are not as well understood. The panel will attempt to put into perspective how a broader understanding of feminism could lead to enhanced achievements by all women.
Angela Bennett, attorney and a recipient of the UMKC Alumni Achievement Award, as well as a former member of the UM System Board of Curators, is panel facilitator. She is also the recipient of the UMKC Alumni Achievement Award and a photo participant in the Library’s Women of a New Tribe exhibit.
