Library to Host Kansas City Youth Empowerment Summit
Kansas City, MO - Teens from across the Metro will gather at the Kansas City Public Library for the 4th Annual Kansas City Youth Empowerment Summit. The free event takes place Saturday, July 14, 2018, 5 p.m. – 9 p.m. at the library’s Plaza Branch, 4801 Main St.
This year’s theme is “Find Your Passion.”
“The 4th Annual Kansas City Youth Empowerment Summit offers teens a program that is truly designed with their interests in mind,” said Kelsey Bates, Teen Librarian at the Library’s Plaza Branch. “Our Teen Leaders of Today decided on a theme that will resonate with their peers and find local experts to speak with the teens.”
Among those experts are local artists, police officers, lawyers, social workers, journalists, construction workers, electricians and others who will take part in a career meet and greet. Budding musicians will also get a chance to learn about music and audio production through the library’s digital media lab.
In addition, there will be panel discussions surrounding activism, art, and identity. “There are so many facets to each of these themes,” said Bates. “The teens wanted a wide-range of speakers so they could have a better understanding of how these topics relate to their lives and how they can become more involved after they leave the Summit.”
The event is free and registration is not required. There will be complimentary food and beverages available.
