Film Central

Online Event

Welcome to Film Central. Your KCPL account gives you access to thousands of movies; movies to check out from our Central Vault collection and movies to stream from Kanopy and Hoopla. Our talented staff, Cullen and James, will announce a film to discuss at the beginning of each month. Please watch the selection and join us on the third Wednesday of each month when we will meet on ZOOM and discuss. You can pop your own popcorn, wear your fuzzy slippers (or your dinner jacket) and talk movies.

For this month at Film Central we are viewing and discussing the film Moonlight (2016).
Join us this month as we discuss Moonlight, the beautiful and moving winner of the 2016 Academy Award for Best Picture. Gracefully directed by Barry Jenkins and adapted by Tarell Alvin McCraney from his play In Moonlight Black Boys Look Blue, this richly drawn coming-of-age story follows guarded, introverted Chiron through three pivotal chapters in his life as he learns to navigate family, identity, love and loss in his Miami neighborhood. By turns heartwrenching and achingly tender, brought to life by vibrant cinematography and passionate performances (including a historic Oscar-winning turn by Mahershala Ali), this spellbinding drama is one of 21st century cinema’s true masterworks.
