Welcome to Film Central!   Your KCPL account gives you access to thousands of movies:  Films to check out from our Central Vault collection as well as to stream from Kanopy and Hoopla.  Our talented staff, Cullen and James, will announce a movie to discuss at the beginning of each month. You’ll have a few weeks to watch the movie.  Then, on the third Wednesday of each month at 6:00 p.m., we will meet on ZOOM and discuss.  You can pop your own popcorn, wear your fuzzy slippers (or your dinner jacket) and talk cinema.  See you at the movies!

Wayne Wang’s 1982 masterpiece "Chan is Missing" is a clever, thoughtful riff on the film noir formula with more on its mind than simplified visions of good and evil. It begins with a mystery: San Francisco cab driver Jo (Wood Moy) and his nephew Steve (Marc Hayashi) are trying to buy a cab license using Jo’s friend Chan Hung as a go-between, but Chan has quietly disappeared – along with the money for the license. As he journeys through Chinatown trying to find Chan, Jo soon finds that both his enigmatic friend and their community are more complex than he might have imagined. Featuring dynamic black and white photography and a script that sparkles with wit and heart, this classic of Asian-American cinema is a beguiling and delightful experience that you won’t want to miss.
