60,000 Tree Challenge & Monarch Butterfly Boxcar Relay

Monarchs and rail transportation are a symbol of North American integration and this unique event will promote sustainable solutions to issues pollinators are facing today. Through hands-on activities, games, presentations, performances and more the community can learn about the pollinator habitat and raise funds to support reforestation in the monarch overwintering forests of Mexico. The Rotary Club of KC, the Kansas City Southern Railway (KCS), Canadian Pacific Railway (CP), GATX, and Rotary International we will be hosting the event. Along the monarch’s fall migration route, and with a stop in Kansas City, KCS, and CP, will move a monarch-themed GATX boxcar from the southern extent of Canada, through the Heartland of the U.S., all the way to the oyamel forests of Mexico.

The Bookmobile will be providing free book giveaways, promotion of library services and games and activities.
