As part of the Library’s efforts to slowly and safely reintroduce important services during the COVID-19 pandemic, we are offering public computer use by appointment. This reservation system provides access to key technical resources while adhering to social distancing guidelines that protect Library guests and our staff.

How It Works

Reserve a computer one of three ways:

Please note that there are limited blocks of time at each location on each day. You must sign up in advance to reserve your spot. Patrons are limited to one computer session per day in order to accommodate as many people as we safely can in our locations.

We ask that you wear a mask while inside the Library. If you do not have a mask, one will be available for you.

Arrive at the Library no earlier than 15 minutes prior or 15 minutes past to your reserved time. If you arrive 15 or more minutes later than your scheduled start time, we will be unable to seat you at a computer and you'll need to make a new reservation.

When you arrive, tell Library staff that you have a scheduled computer appointment. You will be directed to a check-in station with other patrons holding reservations for the same one-hour period. Please observe floor markings and practice social distancing by remaining 6 feet away from others. Staff will ask for your Library card number, and will help you sign into a computer. You'll have until the end of your appointed block of time to use the computer. To allow time for cleaning after each use, scheduled sessions cannot be extended. Staff will let you know when your time is ending. After you are finished using a computer, please collect your belongings and exit the Library through the main entrance.

  • Can I reserve a computer if I don’t have internet access?

    You may call 816.701.3400 or you may visit any of the participating locations to reserve a time.

  • How do I reserve a computer session in person?

    Go to any participating Library location. Please understand that there is no guarantee you will be able to access a computer the same day. If you haven’t already made a reservation, tell a staff member upon arriving that you’d like to make an appointment. You'll be directed to a kiosk where you can reserve a future time slot via our online system or a phone connecting you to a Library staff member who will assist you.

  • Do I need a Library card to use the computers?

    Yes, you will need a library account to log into the computer. If you do not yet have an account and wish to use a computer, visit one of the participating locations and see a staff member for assistance.

  • Why are hours and computer availability limited?

    To follow social distancing guidelines and ensure the health and safety of Library patrons and staff, we are limiting the number of available computers in each building.

  • Do I get a notification when my reservation has gone through?

    If reserving online, you will get an email confirmation of your appointment.

  • When do I need to show up for my scheduled appointment?

    Please arrive at least 15 minutes before and no later than 15 minutes after your scheduled appointment. Once you check in, you'll have until the end of your appointed time to use the computer. If you arrive later than 15 minutes after your scheduled start time, you won't be assigned a computer and must schedule a new appointment.

  • Do I need to wear a mask to enter the Library?

    We are asking all patrons visiting the Library to heed the advice of health experts and wear face masks. If you do not have a mask, the Library can supply you with one. All Library staff will wear masks.

  • Where do I go when I arrive?

    Staff will be at the door to direct you to the check-in station, where you will provide your Library card and be assigned a computer.

  • What steps are being taken to ensure computers are clean and safe?

    Between uses, staff will sanitize all computer monitors, keyboards, mice, and desk surfaces with disinfecting wipes and cleaners. All computers are spaced at least 6 feet apart or separated by shields.

  • Can I bring my kids?

    We are requesting that small children of walking age not be brought to the Library at this time.

  • Can I print materials during my session?

    Free printing is available, as well as free photo copying, fax, and scanning.

  • Can I browse the shelves and check out materials while I’m in the Library?

    We’re sorry, but we are currently allowing patrons inside only for Pop In / Pick Up holds service and computer appointments. As public health guidelines and recommendations change, we hope to be able to resume more of our regular services.

  • What if I just need to use the online catalog to place a hold on a book, CD, or DVD?

    As always, you can browse our collection of books and other materials online at kclibrary.org/catalog.

  • What if I need to cancel my reservation?

    Call 816.701.3400 and one of our librarians will cancel your reservation for you.
