“This is really about the community,” said U.S. Poet Laureate Joy Harjo during her April 14 visit to the Library. "It’s not about one person standing up here. This is all of us coming together.” For the past two months, Kansas Citians engaged in Big Read 2022 book discussions, speaker events, film screenings, and other activities revolving around Harjo's An American Sunrise. As the celebration draws to a close, we look back on memorable moments.

Progress has come fitfully, to be sure. But it has come nonetheless, and C.J. Janovy details the advances in both attitude and deed in the Library’s latest FYI Book Club selection, No Place Like Home: Lessons in Activism from LGBT Kansas.

Cartooning pioneer Will Eisner helped develop a new style of visual storytelling: the graphic novel. Eisner's work is the focus of a Library exhibit currently on display at the Central Library, Will Eisner: The Centennial Celebration, 1917-2017. In conjunction, the Library recaps a recent presentation about Eisner’s impact on artists and readers alike, and we highlight some notable titles in our graphic novel collection – both physical and digital.
