What Makes a Poem Work?

Presented By
Hadara Bar-Nadav, Kathryn Nuernberger, Angela Elam

The National Endowment for the Arts affirmed the Kansas City area as a hub for fine poets and poetry late last year, awarding $25,000 creative writing fellowships in poetry to the University of Missouri-Kansas City’s Hadara Bar-Nadav and the University of Central Missouri’s Kathryn Nuernberger.

Both associate professors released new, award-winning collections of poems in 2016 (Bar-Nadav’s "Fountain and Furnace," Nuernberger’s "The End of Pink"). During National Poetry Month, they join Angela Elam of public radio’s New Letters on the Air in a discussion of their work¬and of the importance of NEA and other funding to poets and artists in all genres.
